Conspiracy Files: Lockerbie
Monday September 14, 2009 at 10 pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld
Conspiracy Files Lockerbie investigates conspiracy theories that continue to haunt Britain's worst terrorist attack, the bombing of Pan AM flight 103 that crashed in Lockerbie, Scotland almost 21 years ago (Dec. 21, 1988). It also questions whether the right man was found guilty of the attack. Convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi has recently been the center of controversy as the Scottish government considered retuning him to Libya on compassionate grounds. Al-Megrahi is terminally ill with prostate cancer and appealing his conviction.
A BBC production produced and directed by Guy Smith, Conspiracy Files Lockerbie follows the trail of evidence from the Middle East, through Europe and onto North America investigating the tangled web of claims and counter-claims that still surround the crash. In a rare interview, Ahmed Jibril, leader of the Palestinian extremist faction PFLP-GC, denies accusations that the group were behind the attack, with backing from Iran.
