Contest Rules and Regulations: Love, Hate and Propaganda

1. TO ENTER
The program;Love, Hate and Propaganda will be broadcast on CBC in six parts, currently scheduled for March 4, 2010 to April 8, 2010. To enter the contest, you must design or create a poster or a short video (30 sec maximum) that conveys a message. You can use photos, moving images, graphics, illustrations, sounds and music to support your message but only if you have created these elements. All entries must be created by and be the original work of the contestant, and must not violate the rights of any third party - for example, you cannot download material from the internet or cut images out of print publications. Your poster can include a slogan or a catchy phrase but it does not necessarily have to. Visit the Love, Hate, and Propaganda website at www.cbc.ca/lovehatepropaganda and view the example of posters If the submission is a group effort, only one person can be the contest participtant and entries are limited to one entry per person per category. This contest will also be run on the Radio-Canada service and entries may be made to only one of these contests. No offensive language or art will be accepted and neither will submissions that promote hatred. CBC reserves the right to exercise judgement in this regard and its decision is final.

All entries must include the following information: participant's name, full postal address, e-mail address, telephone number, age, the name of the school they attend, and agreement to the release clause, should CBC publish or broadcast the submission.
- Digital entries: Digital poster entries must be less than three megabytes in size and in jpg, gif or png format. Some of these entries may be put on television at which point we may contact you in order to obtain full resolution 300 dpi files. All digital video entries must be less than one hundred megabytes in size and in any of .avi, as, wmv, .mp4, .mpg, .mov, flg, vog, 3gp formats. To upload video files, entrants must be members of the CBC Member Centre
- Mail entries: All posters sent by mail must be no larger than 11 x17; in size, un-mounted and unframed. Videos sent by mail will be accepted on CD or DVD. Each poster/video submitted must be labeled with the contestant's name and phone number.
Participants also certify that they are students, that they are the author of the original poster or video submitted, that the poster or video has not been previously published, that all releases and authorizations were duly obtained, including model releases, all of which are the sole responsibility of the participant, and that nothing exists that may interfere with their entering the poster or video in the contest or the granting of authorizations in relation thereto.
By submitting an entry, contestants assign all rights and waive any moral rights they may have in their submissions. Contestants acknowledge that CBC may publish their submissions in whole or in part, on any medium (radio, television, Internet or other).
To be valid, all entries by mail must be postmarked between January 12, 2010 and March 19, 2010. Electronic entries must be received by CBC no later than 11:59 p.m ET on March 19, 2010.
Entries become the property of CBC and will not be returned to contestants. No purchase its necessary to participate in the Love, Hate, and Propaganda†contest. The chances of winning depend on the number and quality of entries received.
2. ELIGIBILITY
This contest is open to secondary and post-secondary students across Canada. It is divided into 2 age categories. Participants may enter either or both a poster or video in their age category:
Poster & Video - ages 14-17
Poster & Video - ages 18 and up
Participants must reside in Canada and be at least 14 years of age before the closing date of the contest on March 12, 2010. Employees of CBC and their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this contest.
3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES
Winner selection will be made by a judging panel of up to 10 people who will be presented with entries that have been selected by CBC employees. The judging panel will comprise people from within the CBC and individuals outside of the CBC selected for their expertise. During the week of March 22, 2010, the panel will judge selected entries for all ages and all categories received prior to the contest closing date.
The judges will be looking at the following three criteria: A clear message, Originality, and Artistic merit.
The judging panel will select the category winner, first runner-up and second runner-up for each of the four categories described above, resulting in the final selection of 12 winners in total. The judging panel reserves the right not to award prizes if the number of entries or quality of entries is insufficient.
Winners will be contacted by telephone or by e-mail commencing on or about March 25, 2010. If contact cannot be made with a winner within four days of the initial attempt, the unclaimed prize will be re-awarded by moving the winners up, and awarding a new second runner-up prize. Awards will be sent out once all winners have been contacted, but no later than April 1, 2010. Any prizes that remain unawarded due to CBC's inability to make contact with a winner in accordance with this procedure, may, at the CBC's sole discretion, be forfeited.
The category winners will be announced on CBC at the end of the program broadcasts on April 1, 2010 and April 8, 2010. The winners and the runners-up will be posted on the CBC website after April 8, 2010.
4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZE(S)
Category winner: Each category winner will receive a $1,000 gift certificate to a national retail and on-line book store.
The First Runner-Up in each category will receive a $250 gift certificate to a national retail and on-line book store.
The Second Runner-Up in each category will receive $100 gift certificate to a national retail and on-line book store.
The total approximate value of prizes is $5,400.
5. GENERAL RULES
5.1 To be declared a winner, the contestant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question. 5.2 Winners, or their parents or guardians if the winner is a minor, shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voices used for advertising purposes related to this contest, free of charge. 5.3 Winners, or their parents or guardians if they are minors, shall sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules and releasing CBC, as well as its directors, officers and employees and the contest judges, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize. 5.4 The prize shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed. 5.5 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC, as well as its directors, officers and employees and the contest judges, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value. 5.6 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC, as well as its directors, officers and employees and the contest judges, of any obligation toward the winner. 5.7 Should winners make any false statement, they shall be automatically disqualified from the contest. 5.8 CBC as well as its directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake. 5.9 CBC as well as its directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this contest. 5.10 All personal information, such as your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and ageis collected solely for the purposes of administering this contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes. 5.11 By entering, contestants agree to abide by the contest rules which shall be applied by the CBC.
