Love Interrupted tells the stories of first loves who were separated in youth, lost all contact with each other and eventually managed to reunite decades later. The film recreates the mood of teenage love and tells the heartrending stories of two couples who were torn apart by class, religion, parents and geography. These couples tell us their stories of how they met, why they broke up and most importantly, what drew them back together.

We explore the themes of love from an unusual perspective - the long delayed happy ending of the Romeo and Juliet story, or an adult version of A Midsummer Night's Dream - where, instead of getting lost in the romantic wilderness for a night, these lovers were lost to each other for decades. Ultimately we have an up-lifting story about the enduring nature of love.
Of course, no comedy is complete without some heartbreak. The collateral damage of abandoned spouses and angry children will give the stories a biting edge. One of our experts, Dr. Nancy Kalish issues a warning to those who would innocently look up an old flame: "Don't do it unless you are prepared for the emotional eruption that often ends in divorce."
Love Interrupted is produced by Alison Armstrong and directed by Giselle Portenier in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
