I found it curious that the 'tool' used to hold the floor to speak amongst Google colleagues was a pencil ... The primal script instrument.

Of the 5/6th of the world's population who do not have access to the internet, nor the infra-structure or power to drive it, let alone the 'literacy' to 'consume' it, perhaps advocating an international 'Pencil First' program would facilitate a much greater 'globally' beneficial 'Revolution' then Google's proposed '300 year plan' to 'claim' all human "data" ....

Welcome to Cyborgville peeps.
The Future looks bleak.

Well, good CBC program - a bit skeptical of Google claims, a little "muck-raking", but all in all - a nice way to show the world how good Google really is!

In the last few months, I've really become a fan of "cloud computing" and everything Google. Ok - part of that is my old, rickety laptop that is just about busted, so I sure trust Google's cloud more than my own computer's hard-drive.

Also - I've got nothing to hide from the spooks! Really, believe me...

I thought this was a good show. Far better then I thought it would be and very thought provoking.

This documentary made me form an opinion about Google and how it isn't actually evil. I used to think that Google was a big threat to the internet because it wanted to be the site from where all the information would come and go. Now I think that Google would be able to police the internet better if they did do the Google cloud thing. However the government would probably be able to access all our information easier. I think that Google might be in trouble with all these new geniuses coming out every day, that's the problem with the advancing technology is that everyone knows how to use it and everyone is getting really good with it so Google might be in trouble. I really think that Google is not evil just huge that's the opinion that this documentary gave me.

I never would have imagined that Google would have started in a basement by a couple of college students. The things Google has like white boards, food stands, and paperless companies, how much computers are used and paper is not, is an excellent way to help save our environment. I can believe that for many people it would be their life long goal to work with Google! I personally do not have a g-mail account but I think that to add ads about what is in an e-mail is a clever way to make money, but I would not want to receive ads because of something said in an e-mail. Google has a very interesting theory about quality. The more links a website has the higher the quality.

After watching the documentary about Google, I have a totally new perspective on the organization. I had no problems with Google going in to the film, and after it was finished I was amazed. The most outstanding thing about the company is how they treat their employees. They have gyms, day cares, and even a beach volleyball court. But the coolest think about the company is the openness and desire to achieve greatness. The two multi millionaire founders and owners work in and amounts all the employees, and talk about new ideas daily. That is incredibly strange for such a huge company. As for the cloud idea, I am all for it. Google will need to tread extremely carefully and introduce the idea slowly, but I can see it happening within the next 50 years.

The documentary of Google World has given me some doubts and thoughts of the future of Google. At the moment Google has been made a huge success across the planet and it is growing at exponential speed and acceleration. Google has an extremely advanced search engine, and have maps down pat even to the street view with important buildings in 3D. Google’s motto is “Don’t Be EVIL” but they want to contain all information on their servers which I just don’t trust, because storage devices can be hacked, inserted with a virus, and can be completely wiped with just the click of a button. I think that they have a good idea but it just doesn’t fit into the world we live in right now.

This documentary made me think about how big Google is. It’s amazing how big Google has gotten over the past 15 or so years. What started just as a search engine, accessing information from all over the world, which was already amazing, has turned into a global phenomenon, which is even more amazing! Google is so much more than a search engine now. Now they have so much more than searching up information. An example is “Google Maps,” this program helps you get directions to wherever you need to go. They also have “G-mail,” a great thing about this program is that when the ads pop up on the sides; they have something to do with the e-mail you have received, because the program is trained to read your e-mails in a split second. Google has hundreds of other programs, and I would have to do a lot of research to find out what these are. A few than I can name are: Images, Scholar, Docs, Translate, Video, etc. Google even has their own internet browser, known as Google Chrome.

I agree the movie because I thing Google is one of the best internet searching company.
I thing the best part was where they talking about how the storing all the information from all internet pages. I guess Google just want to share there information and technologies with the world. I like the logo from Google (don’t be evil) its kind of funny but Google threats there employees very well, they give them free food and they like can workout while they working.

I was really impressed with the level of reporting that CBC did for the "Google World" documentary. The number of experts and employees interviewed truly made the research on the company interesting to view, as well as credible. I watched it when it first came out in February of 2010, and I kept thinking, "So many of my high school students would appreciate learning more about this company." (My Grade 11 Transactional English class is currently studying a unit on major corporations.) After watching a few documentaries, including this one, they had to respond to one and post their responses online. They are quite impressed and excited to see their thoughts and opinions online for others to see. CBC, thanks for allowing Canadian students to make their learning authentic.

After we watched the documentary about Google, I was amazed because Google is really good and really fast. I used to think that Google was a big threat to the internet because it wanted to be the site from where all the information would come and go. The most outstanding thing about the company is how they treat their employees. I think Google is good because you can find everything faster and easier. In my opinion, Google today is far from the great search engine it was in those far-off days. I can believe that for many people it would be their life long goal to work with Google. That is incredibly strange for such a huge company. I really think that Google is not evil just huge that's the opinion that this documentary gave me.

Google's motto of "Don't be Evil" is shaky ground. Evil is, for the most part, relevant to one' s beliefs and religon. Sure, it may work now, where the company is unified in it's belief of evil, but what happens when Google is turned over to money-hungry-power-mongers? Where do their morals lie? Admittedly, evil is a pretty general term; symbols of evil often include the devil (being mostly cow) and the colors of Black or Red. My question is what happens when Google moves on to new owners?

Watching "Google World" really opened my eyes to the potential power that Google could wield. When so much information is stored by one company, including many people's personal info, it is very easy for this information to be misused. As stated in the documentary, Google has recieved subpoenas from law enforcement for information. I began to wonder how far Google can go before they become too power-hungry to remember thier slogan -- "Don't be Evil".

I found this documentary was very interesting. I didn’t realize how Google was created or why. Before I watched this documentary I always wondered how websites such as Google made money and how they got their name. I was very pleased to get the answers to my questions and probably the questions of many other students. I found myself realizing how much I used Google. I didn’t think I really used Google for anything but research but it was actually a part of 80% of the web pages I visit.

I am not sure if I liked how they called their employees by number. We heard from many different employees and they all had their own number. It kind of gives you the idea that they aren’t friends there cause they don’t use first names, it almost seems disrespectful to all those who do work at Google and should be recognized for all they do. I also don’t agree with the Google Docs. I don’t think that person information should be put online. Google may say that it will be kept safe but were we not always taught to never trust strangers and anyone online whom we have never met?

Well I think that the whole Google doc idea is absolutely amazing, just the idea that you could save your work on the internet is just astonishing. However with an idea like this it means that there are risks and consciousness and some of them is that people who have no business will be able to access different peoples information and use it for advantage and I think that is just wrong. I think that the only people who should be able to access our information is the government and even there I think we should be able to release as much information as we want to, just enough to show so that if something didn’t work it should then they could contact us and tell us. But over all I think that is whole Google doc and outstanding.

The movie made me see how much work and technology that they have put into Google website to help anyone who has to research anything that exists. The thing that amazed me was that it all started by a couple of guys in there garage, that is something that I would never think of doing in a garage. The new thing that they created was the G mail; the cool thing is when ads pop up on the side of the page its more info about the e-mail that u received and they do that in the mater of second or so then they ad them to your e-mail

I like this documentary, because it proves that people can do something with their lives at an early age. These two guys came up with the most popular search engine in the world. It personally blows me away, to put all your time and effort into something that you came up with in collage and made it known world wide. Plus when people search things, ads for related topics pop up to. If I ever got offered a job at Google inc. I would take it in a heartbeat. The job would be fun and challenging and the enviroment seems friendly.

I thought that this documentary was interesting. I did not know that much about Google before this documentary, besides it being a website. It is amazing that this company started in a garage and turned into the company it is today. Google doc was pretty cool, that you can save information through the internet and open it somewhere across the world. Great documentary.
