a/k/a Tommy Chong: The US Government vs. Tommy Chong

November 19, 2008 12:35 PM

The US Government vs. Tommy Chong chronicles the entrapment and incarceration of comedy icon Tommy Chong of the legendary comedy duo, Cheech and Chong.

Josh Gilbert takes on the event in his documentary, and offers a sometimes frightening, often hilarious account of Operation Pipe Dreams, a nationwide drug paraphernalia sting spearheaded by a federal prosecutor named Mary Beth Buchanan, appointed by George Bush three short days after the attacks of 9/11.

The war on drugs is directed to the wrong drugs. Each year tobacco, alcohol and prescription drugs kill more people than all illegal drugs combined, and not by just a litte bit either.

Legalize the whole lot. Take away the criminal element. It does not mean everyone will become a pot head or crack addict. Booze has been legal all my life and I am no alcoholic.( I don't even drink the stuff) As are millions of others not drunks just because alcohol is legal. So spare me that argument. Make it legal and kids won't be dying from "bad stuff" . Take away the criminal element and the jails and courts will have plenty of room and money for the rapists, child molesters and murderers whose sentences seem to get lighter and lighter all the time.

American are hysterical over this stuff because they have been thoroughly brainwashed. Drug companies kill more people than your local smack dealer. Molson kills more people than your local smack dealer. Rothmans kills them slowly. The war on drugs is directed at the wrong drugs. A deflection from the truth. Alcohol, tobacco, and precription drugs are the real criminals.

The US 'War on Drugs' is more dangerous than the drugs themselves.

The challenge with drug law reform is to convince the politicians in power that the status quo is more costly than the legalization of drugs.

Whether you want to legalize just cannabis or all illicit drugs is a secondary question. The first question is do we as a society want to continue with policies which are from the last century.

The time to speak up is now, or we might just end up like Tommy Chong.

Kudos to Josh Gilbert for his excellent documentary and to the CBC for showing it.

The FDA is under the drug cartels control . It is like having the Mafia control a study on legalizing street drugs. What prescription drugs do not record is the startling number of suicides commted by legal drug users!
