Encounter Point

February 28, 2007 12:20 PM

Reverberations from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are felt worldwide-the conflict is perhaps the most divisive, polarizing and documented political issue of our time. Encounter Point moves beyond sensational and dogmatic images to tell the story of four civilians who sacrifice their safety, public standing, communities and homes in order to press for a grassroots movement for non-violence and peace.

This film explores what drives these, and thousands of other, like-minded civilians to overcome anger and grief to work for peace, and asks why-with the world's cameras focused on this conflict-the public has never heard about these courageous and vital efforts.

Tell us what you thought about this film.

It's great that you've shown this and we must all encourage the moderates on both sides to come together.
The news media rarely refers to the conditions under which the UN established Israel out of Palestine. That shoud be square one and then compromises by both sides worked out to come to a negotiated settlement with concessions equally and fairly made on both sides, with two viable states.

Measures that are not even-handed will have little chance of acceptance and success -- equal 'suffering' and equal benefits so seen as fair to lessen resistance. It will take strong leadership and obvious justice.

Encounter Point is a remarkable, powerful and truly enlightening documentary. The media is usually focuses on the voices of fear, emnity and hatred within the Middle East, so it is wonderful that the courageous voices for reconciliation between Palestinians and Israelis have been given this opportunity to be heard.

I hope that enough Palestinians and Israelis will get to see this documentary so that it can make a difference.

It was incredibly heartwarming to see Palestinian and Israeli families who have suffered so much coming together to find a path towards reconciliation.

It is rare for us to see Palestinians portrayed in our media in a humanized fashion. It is equally rare for us to see Israelis challenging the government position on settlements and peace with Palestinians.

The images of these families, who have so bravely turned their inimaginable grief into something so humane will stay with me for a long time.

Bravo!
