Happy 50th Anniversary: The Nature of Things

The award winning Nature of Things has been weaving narratives about science and natural history for 50 years. The series has lasted as long as it has for a reason: its stories are entertaining, informative, dramatic and powerful. It has a compelling host, David Suzuki, who has made his way into the hearts and minds of two generations of Canadians.

50_1.jpg At the heart of the series' success lies a simple truth: our programs tell the viewers fascinating things about the world they live in, and they come away from the screen knowing a bit more than before.

At times our stories have transformed the way our society understands an issue. Subjects range from the profound to the stuff of everyday life, bringing to the screen some of the most significant moments in the history of our society, of other cultures, and of the planet itself: The Pill. Clear cutting. Disappearing cultures. Wild animals. Global warming. Earth's 4.6 billion year history.

50_3.jpg The Nature of Things is at a remarkable point in its history, one that is unrivaled in the world of science programming. The 2010 season is an opportunity for Canadians to share in the celebration of this landmark series, its many achievements and future ambitions. Every story has a beginning, middle and end. We happen to think that the story of The Nature of Things has just begun.
