Dancing
Why do we dance? Put on your boogyin' shoes and check out the podcast below to find out.
As always, the "enhanced" version of the podcast (with chapters, pictures, and webs links) is available from iTunes.
Everybody dance now! But what's behind all that dancing? We'll find out this week.
Some places - your local discotheque, for example - are associated with
dancing. Other places... not so much. Sook-Yin will head out to her
local mall to see if she can find some strangers to join in an impromptu
dance party.
With over 30 million YouTube views, Matt Harding has to be the
world's most popular dancer... who can't actually dance. Tune in to
find out why everyone wants to be his dance partner.
How does a type-A personality learn to relax and let someone else take
the lead? Janet Carlson will
explain why for her, the tricky part of learning ballroom dance wasn't
getting the steps down.
When Canadian director Paul Saltzman
discovered a high school where black kids and white kids were forbidden
to dance together, he picked up the phone and asked Morgan Freeman for
help. And then he grabbed his movie camera... Paul will chat with Sook-Yin
about the resulting movie, Prom Night in Mississippi.
Everyone's got a signature dance move. Elaine Chau will explain how
she developed hers babysitting her three-year-old sister.
What is your 16-year-old daughter doing when she sneaks out on a Friday
night? Probably the foxtrot at the seniors' centre. Seriously. We'll
find out why Candy Palmater
did exactly that.
Sook-Yin will tell us why banana beer plus a harvest festival are a
recipe for dancin' like a fool in Senegal.
Some of us really love to shakeour tail feathers. Others are not quite
so eager to get their groove on. And part of the difference may be in
your scientifically-measurable
"dance confidence." Rachel
Sanders will explain.
When we get physical, the dance floor can turn into a combat zone. We'll
hear what went wrong when Winnipeg rapper Pip Skid had a dance floor
battle with musician Greg
MacPherson.... and ask the guys (who've since made up) to play us a
tune, live in studio.
As a child, Habiba Nosheen was
convinced she was a future Bollywood dance star. She's since had a
change of heart. She'll tell us about the day the dancing died.
Is dancing still fun when it becomes your job? Sook-Yin will find out
when she talks with National Ballet of Canada principal dancer Heather Ogden.
Wabanakwut Kinew had a
dream of being a dancer... literally. He'll tell us why every summer, he
takes on the grueling challenge of the Sun Dance.
