Feb. 13/09: Matchmaker, matchmaker...
Hi Pals o' DNTO! SYL here.
In celebration of V-day, this week on Definitely Not the Opera, we're wondering what is that special ingredient for successful partnerships in business, romance and just about anything that requires two or more people to work together? What makes one partnership blossom and the other go bust?
For that matter, why are we so obsessed with finding the perfect match anyway?
I figure I know people well. I've spent enough hours watching them in the mall so I know a thing or two about the naked ape. There's also a part of me that is a hopeless romantic. Combine those two characteristics and what you get is someone with a dangerous belief in my own romantic matchmaking skills.
Here are some 101 Matchmaking basics. Opposites attract. Fiery girl + fiery guy equals too much fire, and they will burn your house down. So whatcha do is match fiery girl with quiet nerd man. Or, you match feisty Frank with nurturing Fred. Call me crazy, but I'm telling you it works!
But come to think of it, my matchmaking skills have rarely helped me out. I've never even been married, and so far I've been through more relationships than happy divorcee, Zsa Zsa Gabor, who divorced seven times and has one annulled marriage.
So maybe finding your perfect match, is a bit of a tough nut to crack. To see how all this matchmaking works out, I'm throwing the throbbing heart over to you.
Indeed. Matchmaking tales of true love and true terror.
Okay, now you may have noticed, only women wanted to talk about matchmaking. But believe me, I tried as hard as I could to get the guys to open up, but for some reason, they wouldn't.
Take a listen to this:
Whoa. I had no idea I was touching on such a scarred, frightened, male nerve. What's up with that? Well, tune into Definitely Not the Opera this week when DNTO contributor Mike OʼBrian drops by to shed some light on men and matchmaking.
That's this Saturday (February 14, don't y'know) at 1:00 (1:30 in Newfoundland) on CBC Radio One in Canada, 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Sirius Satellite 137.
