Police shooting inquest begins in Fort St John

On Monday, August 29th, a police shooting inquest began at the Fort St John courthouse. It comes two years after Valeri George was shot dead by an RCMP "SWAT" team near Buick Creek. George lived there on a remote farm with his wife, and as many as ten children -- including a newborn. He was 41 years old -- and communicated mostly in German. Some neighbours remember George as a happy, gentle father who lost his job and fell on hard times. Police say he was shot -- after a dramatic domestic incident and an armed stand-off that lasted for days. Here's what Corporal Dan Moskaluk told reporters -- back in 2009. You may have to listen carefully, because of the street noise and poor sound quality.
