Contractor comes clean about working for cash and working without permits
That collapsed house on de Bullion street in the Plateau is still lying in rubble. It fell in on itself over the weekend -- as the owner and two workers were carrying out renovations.They were excavating beneath the building. The workers had earlier been slapped with a stop-work order. Because they didn't have the proper permits in place. We spoke to someone with unique insights into the situation around permits in Montreal. He's a contractor and he says working without a permit is a common practice across the city. He also admits to working on sites with no permit himself.
