Hampstead highrise

Tonight's town council meeting in Hampstead is shaping up to be a turbulent one. At issue: the proposal to build a highrise condo, 16 stories high, on the site of the old MacDonald Firehouse. Currently the tallest building in town is just 5 stories. But the Town is keen on what Mayor Bill Steinberg says would be a one-off condo tower, which would significantly increase revenue for the town, making new capital expenditures like a hockey arena possible, and easing any pressure for future tax increases.
