Deluge of Basement floodings
When rain falls now in Montreal, more and more people start to worry about their basements. Madeleine Hall is still cleaning up the mess she discovered in hers after the heavy rains from last week. Her flooded basement in Pointe Claire is a relatively minor case. But still a huge hassle -- and an expense. She figures the clean-up will cost between 5- and 10-thousand dollars. And hers is a story becoming increasingly common as even Richard Fontaine accepts. He's in charge of waste water treatment for the City of Montreal. Another person with a perspective on this issue is Henry Blumenthal. He's a vice president and chief underwriter at TD Insurance.
