Dragon Boat Festival in Montreal!

As park Jean Drapeau gets set to welcome over 200 different dragon beat teams for the Montreal International Dragon boat festival next weekend, I had the good fortune to be invited to join a Grand Dragon boat this week for Dare Andie with the club 22 Dragons on the Lachine Canal.

As a former rower, getting back on the water was an exciting prospect for me. The experience exceeded my expectations! The team was wonderful as I perched on what I will call the 'jump seat'. This is where the drummer usually sits but instead there I was, a passenger with a microphone I desperately tried to keep dry. Moments later we pulled off to a dock on the Lachine canal, made a quick switch and before I knew it I was part of a 20 woman crew hurtling down the Lachine canal.

Head out to the Dragon Boat festival at Jean Drapeau next weekend, July 24th and 25th if you want to check it out. There are free shuttle buses on the corner of La Gauchetiere Ouest and St-Urbain streets that goes from the Chinatown to the Olympic Basin every 30 minutes starting from 10am to 6pm.

Here are some more photos from my evening with the Grand Dragons at http://www.22dragons.com/
