Boston bad vibes

This year's rivalry between the Habs and the Bruins has been even more tense than in other years. Now we're in the play-offs and that tension has been being felt in the stands as well as on the ice. Nut case

Health officials are still trying to understand an e-coli outbreak that they think is linked to some walnuts -- and has already been blamed for one death. The company that packages the walnuts, Amira, has issued a voluntary recall. Thursday on the program, we tried to explain how word of that recall gets out. It didn't work. On tadau's show offered up an answer -- and a rather unsettling look at how well the recall system is working.

Bloody post-election in the Ivory Coast

Laurent Gbagbo remains in his presidential compound this morning in the Ivory Coast. He does not accept the results of the election that the UN and international observers, as well as the country's electoral officials say he lost back in November of last year. That refusal has led to divisions, and conflict, as the man who won the vote, Alassane Ouattara, finally moved to take the presidency. The push by Ouattara forces has been bloody. And there's been a lot of violence by Gbagbo loyalists in the run-up. There are reports of hundreds being killed in the town of Duekoue. Bodies scattered in the streets of Abidjan. The fighting followed a presidential election that was meant to restore peace in what was once the most stable and prosperous country of West Africa. Instead, it looks more like civil war. Jean-Hilaire Yapi is president of the Ivorian Congress in Canada. Montrealer Estelle Obeo has family in Abidjan. We had both in our studio.

Hampstead highrise

Tonight's town council meeting in Hampstead is shaping up to be a turbulent one. At issue: the proposal to build a highrise condo, 16 stories high, on the site of the old MacDonald Firehouse. Currently the tallest building in town is just 5 stories. But the Town is keen on what Mayor Bill Steinberg says would be a one-off condo tower, which would significantly increase revenue for the town, making new capital expenditures like a hockey arena possible, and easing any pressure for future tax increases.
