Damien Echols is a member of The West Memphis Three, a trio of teenagers convicted of murdering three boys in 1993. They denied the charges, the Paradise Lost documentaries argued that they had been railroaded, and new witnesses and DNA evidence seem to support their case. They were released last August, accepting an "Alford Plea" in which they pleaded guilty while maintaining their innocence. Echols' new memoir is Life After Death and the documentary he co-produced, West of Memphis, is due out in December.
Update, Sept. 28: Our signed Life after Death contest is now closed. Congratulations to listener Peter Buehler who won our random draw. Thanks to everyone who shared this interview with friends.
