This week, an angry mob stormed the U-S consulate in Benghazi, Libya, resulting in the death of the American ambassador Chris Stevens. The mob's wrath was sparked, at least in part, by an obscure American-made video that ridicules the prophet Mohammad. The incident has provoked demonstrations and attacks across the Middle East. And it has some observers suggesting it signals the end of the West's hopes for the Arab Spring. Dr. Ethan Chorin is a former diplomat who was scheduled to meet the ambassador the day after the attack.
