The murder rate in Chicago is surging, up 37% from last year. Eager to try a new approach to help staunch the blood flow, the city of Chicago is appealing to an organization called CeaseFire. Featured in a critically-acclaimed documentary called
The Interrupters, workers with the group deliberately infiltrate and interrupt street violence at its root. The film caught the attention of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and this week, the city of Chicago gave CeaseFire $1million to hire more violence interrupters.
Steve James directed and produced The Interrupters.
