Launching A Drone PR Offensive
News that a drone strike killed al-Qaeda's second-in-command this week was met with mixed reaction. The Obama administration defends drones strikes as "legal, ethical and wise", but on Thursday, the UN Human Rights chief called for an investigation into the legality of the US drone war in Pakistan, saying it's killing innocent civilians.
For many, drones are associated with killing people and unwanted surveillance. And news that more drones could soon be flying in US airspace is ringing alarm bells with people of all political stripes.
All this criticism is a concern for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International -- the group that represents drone makers. They're preparing a campaign they hope will change the public perception of drones.
