Best of Day 6: The Real Swedish Chef

We were pretty excited at the prospects of a new Muppets movie hitting theatres. But then we got even more excited at the possibility that the famous Swedish Chef character was actually based on a real person.

Sort of.

It's basically impossible to prove the truth of this story, so we went along with the, ah, truthiness, of it. Lars Backman is Swedish. He's a chef. And he worked in the 20th Century Fox kitchen right around the time Jim Hensen created the eponymous muppet. Other details further support the claim that Lars may be the genesis of the muppet.

Is he truly the inspiration? Who's to say for sure. But one thing's certain: Lars' own personality is quite muppet-like in itself. We love this Day 6 story for the simple reason that Lars is a great character who made us laugh.
