The contest was a test of the depth and sophistication of A.I. and specifically its ability to understand language.
But it's certainly not the only A.I. yard stick out there. The Olympic Games of artificial intelligence is something called the Turing Test.
It's goal? For a computer - sometimes called a chat bot - to convince a panel of judges that it's human.
Brian Christian was part of the Turing Test. And he entered the fray holding high, the flag of humanity... determined to show these computers what it means to be human.
Christian wrote about the experience in a new book called The Most Human Human: What Talking with Computers Teaches Us About What It Means to Be Alive. He joined us from Philadelphia.
