After nine weeks, nine cover songs, three battles, one immunity win and 7,530 tweets, Toronto's Whosarmy has been named winner of Cover Me Canada!
Says judge Ron Fair, "Canada couldn't have asked for a better outcome from a show that has thrilled audiences week to week combining raw talent with beloved Canadian classic hits! It's been thrilling for all three of us to watch these bands grow musically. Ultimately it came down to two finalists that proved to Canadian audiences that they had what it takes to dominate a stage and leave their mark on the Canadian music scene. Only one could win and we thought that these young men are consummate musicians and deserved to win. They are not afraid of challenging themselves and they always respected the spirit of the songs they were performing while not afraid to branch out with their own unique arrangements. Travis' vocal range and showmanship is fantastic! We know they will have a strong future and everyone go out and download this great original song."
By "original song," he means "Alive", the brand new track written by Whosarmy and Chantal Kreviazuk, and produced by Ron Fair. It's now available for purchase on iTunes.
In last night's finale, Whosarmy performed Alanis Morissette's "Hand In My Pocket", battled with Melanie Morgan on The Band's "The Weight", and performed band's choice "Hallelujah". Melanie Morgan performed Bryan Adam's "Summer of '69" and band's choice "Magic Carpet Ride". The judge's votes were combined with Canada's votes to determine the Cover Me Canada champion.
