Payless ShoeSource recalls toddler clogs

Last Updated: Tuesday, July 17, 2007 | 1:33 PM ET

About 3,000 pairs of clogs for toddlers are being withdrawn in Canada because small plastic rivets on the straps can come loose, presenting a choking hazard, Payless ShoeSource said Tuesday.

The shoes were sold in sizes five through 10. The recall affects the following products:

  • Dora the Explorer character clogs.
  • Spongebob Squarepants character clogs.
  • Hello Kitty character clogs.
  • Coasters Lighted Car Compel clogs.
  • Cambridge Mary-Janes.

The footwear was sold between January 2006 and June 2007 for about $19 to $29. The recall does not affect other styles, sizes or models.

Payless ShoeSource Inc., based in Topeka, Kan., has also issued a recall of 270,000 pairs of the clogs in the U.S.

Consumers should take the shoes away from young children and return them to the retailer for a refund or exchange.

No injuries or incidents have been reported, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
