Wal-Mart Canada recalls roman shades

Wal-Mart Canada has recalled 383,178 roman shades because they pose a strangulation hazard to young children.

Strangulations can occur when a child places their neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind, or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around their neck.

Neither Wal-Mart Canada nor Health Canada have received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these roman shades.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled roman shades and contact the Window Covering Safety Council for a free repair kit.

The repair kit involves removing the cords and attaching devices to manually raise and lower the shade. Consumers may also remove the cords without attaching the devices. However, the product will be inoperable and remain in the lowered position.
