JCPenney is rcalling roman shades and roll-up blinds because they pose a strangulation hazard to young children.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
In the United States, there have been two incidents of a two-year-old girl becoming entangled twice in the cord of one of the recalled roman shades.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled roman shades and roll-up blinds, and contact the Window Covering Safety Council for a free repair kit.
The repair kit involves removing the cords and attaching devices to manually raise and lower the shade. Consumers may also remove the cords without attaching the devices. However, the product will be inoperable and remain in the lowered position.
For more information, see Health Canada's advisory here.
