LG and Hampton Bay dehumidifiers recalled over fire hazard

About 98,000 portable LG dehumidifiers have been recalled in the U.S. after four reports of fires being ignited by a short circuit in the power connector.

LG has received 11 reports of incidents, including four fires that caused significant smoke or water damage. No injuries have been reported.

The dehumidifiers, manufactured in China by LG Electronics, were sold by Home Depot, Walmart and Heat Controller Inc. between January 2007 and June 2008.

The second recall, initiated by the Electrical Safety Authority, involves Hampton Bay dehumidifiers, following reports that 18 caught fire because of overheating.

One person suffered an injury to his forearm.

The faulty made-in-China products were sold in the U.S. at Home Depot stores between November 2000 and May 2007.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled dehumidifiers and contact Home Depot for a gift card for the full amount of the purchase price.
