Belkin automobile iPod docks recalled over fire hazard
- December 4, 2009 9:35 AM
- By Peter Hadzipetros
Belkin has recalled about 46,400 automobile dock-chargers for iPods because of a potential fire hazard.
The models include TuneBase Direct with Hands-Free, TuneBase FM with Hands-Free and TuneBase FM with ClearScan.
A small washer on the tip of the cigarette lighter adaptor can be conductive in some cases, creating a short circuit in the product and leading to overheating. This poses a potential fire hazard.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.
They were sold between April and October 2009 at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Intertan, Sears, Future Shop, and Loblaws, as well as various other stores across Canada.
Consumers should contact Belkin for a product replacement.
