Health Canada recalls foam puzzles with numbers or letters due to choking hazard

Health Canada is recalling foam-block puzzles with numbers or letters sold at dollar stores in Quebec, because of a choking hazard.

This recall involves two puzzle sets of coloured foam blocks with cutouts in the shape of either numbers or alphabet letters. The foam cutouts come in five colours: blue, green, purple, yellow and red.

The puzzle set is sold in a clear plastic bag without a product name or description.

The first set has 10 foam square puzzle pieces. Each piece has a removable foam cutout in the shape of a number. The bag in which this puzzle set was sold has a sticker with the UPC 8 80763 10674 0 and item #32681003.

The second set has 26 foam square puzzle pieces. Each piece has a removable foam cutout in the shape of an alphabet letter. The bag in which this puzzle set was sold has a sticker with the UPC number 8 80763 10673 3 and item number 32681002.

The puzzle sets can break into small parts, posing a choking hazard to young children under three years.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries.

About 700 sets of the puzzle with numbers and 481 sets of the puzzle with alphabet letters were sold at dollar stores in Quebec from March 2009 to August 2009.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and dispose of it in regular household garbage.
