Health Canada is recalling Black & Decker thermal coffee makers because they can overheat or melt, posing a burn hazard.
This recall involves the Black & Decker 8-cup programmable thermal coffee maker. It can be identified by model number TCM1000KT, printed on the rating plate on the bottom of the coffee maker.
There have been 46 reports in North America of melting or fire, with 16 causing property damage, though Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians.
About 77,000 of the coffee makers were sold at Sears and Canadian Tire stores across Canada from 2007 to July 2009.
Consumers should immediately stop using the coffee maker and contact Applica Canada Corp. for a free replacement household product.
For more information, consumers may contact Applica Canada toll-free at 1-866-699-4595 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
