About 2,500 hammocks manufactured by Grand Trunk Inc. of Skokie, Ill., are the subject of a voluntary recall because the hammock's supporting hooks can fail, causing occupants to fall.
So far, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says nine incidents of hook failure have been reported, resulting in bumps and bruises.
The recalled hammocks were sold in single and double versions and packaged in a nylon sack, which has the Grand Trunk logo printed on the outside.
The following models and colours are included in the recall: SH-01 (single olive/khaki), SH-02 (single blue/navy blue), SH-06 (single royal/khaki), DH-01 (double olive/khaki), DH-02 (double light blue/yellow), DH-03(double navy/silver), DH-04 (double navy/red). The model number can be located on the product's hang tag.
The hammocks were sold at specialty outdoor retailers from July 2008 through June 2009, priced at $50 to $60.
The CPSC says consumers should stop using the recalled hammocks immediately and contact the firm for a free repair kit.
The firm can be reached toll free at (877) 365-2965 Monday through Friday. Consumers can also get information at the firm's website at www.grandtrunkgoods.com
