Health Canada recalls kettles due to burn hazard

Health Canada is recalling tea kettles sold under the name "Harmony" by Copco. The kettles come in stainless steel (brushed and polished finishes) and enamel finishes (red, white, black, turquoise, orange, yellow, blue).

The lid on the tea kettle may come loose during handling, posing a burn hazard.

The firm is aware of 25 incidents of the lid coming loose in the United States. Second-degree burns to hands and fingers have been reported.

Health Canada and Wilton Industries have not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these kettles.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tea kettles. Anyone who has one can contact Wilton Industries Canada for a free replacement lid. If the consumer has an enamel tea kettle, contact Wilton Industries Canada for a free replacement kettle or a refund.

Approximately 5,000 of the kettles were sold in Canada at various retailers between March 2006 and June 2009.
