Baby seats recalled over metal parts

Health Canada has announced the recall of about 730 BabyBjorn baby seats because they may be embedded with small pieces of metal, which in turn pose an injury risk to infants.

The recall involves the BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance and BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance Air seats. The seats are designed for infants between eight and 29 pounds, and come in five colour combinations: black/silver, black/red, dark blue/blue, brown/beige, or white.

The affected BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance seats can be identified by the following item and UPC numbers:

  • Item number:009064US and UPC: 874594006140.
  • Item number:009065US and UPC: 874594006157.
  • Item number:009066US and UPC: 874594006164.
  • Item number:009069US and UPC: 874594006171.

The affected Balance air seats are identified by the item number 009001US and UPC number 874594006133.
Health Canada has received two reports that indicated metal pieces were found in the padded area of the seats.

There have been no injury reports.

The distributor, BabySwede LLC, has voluntarily recalled all the products "in order to inspect the seat padding for metal pieces and to attach an updated warning label," says Health Canada.

The recalled products were sold at baby and children stores across Canada between September 2008 and July 2009.

Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue use of the seats and contact BabySwede for instructions on sending the seats back for inspection and relabelling. BabySwede can be reached toll-free at 1-866-424-0200.
