Rexall teethers recalled over bacteria and mould contamination

Health Canada has announced the recall of 7,600 Rexall-brand teethers that are contaminated with bacteria and mould.

The teethers, identified by UPC code 771058024101, are shaped like a hand or a foot and are filled with water. They are for infants between three and 18 months of age.

Health Canada tests revealed that the teethers' filling is contaminated by mould and Bacillus coagulans bacteria.

While exposure to mould can cause allergic reactions in some people, exposure to Bacillus coagulans does not necessarily harm health. There have been no reports of injuries or adverse reactions associated with use of the teethers.

The teethers were sold across Canada from July 2007 to June 2009 in stores that carry Rexall products.

The public is advised to stop children from using the products and to return the teethers for a full refund to the nearest store that carries Rexall items.

Consumers can reach Rexall customer service at 1-877-378-4100.
