Lighters recalled over fire risk

Health Canada announced the recall of around 80,000 Ronson lighters because they may pose a fire hazard.

Four lighters sold across Canada between June 2007 and June 2009 are affected by this recall:

  • Wind Resistant Lighter model number 1010, UPC 059136511010.
  • Wind Resistant Kit model number 1058, UPC 059136511058.
  • Multi-Flex Utility Lighter model number 1218, UPC 059136511218.
  • Standard Utility Lighter model number 1317, UPC 059136511317.

Health Canada testing revealed that the Wind Resistant kit model had fuel leakage problems and didn't burn safely.

The model in question was the only one of the four recalled that didn't meet safety standard, but Ronson "has taken the precaution of recalling its full range of utility lighters," Health Canada said.

There have been no reports of injuries or incidents associated with the use of the lighters.

Consumers are advised to stop using the lighters. The affected lighters can be returned to the retailer for a full refund.
