Health Canada is recalling a pull cord toy shaped like a plastic turtle distributed by Estowest Company Limited because small parts can detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard to children.
The toy, which comes in various colour combinations, was sold exclusively at Everything for a Dollar stores.
The bottom of the turtle is a different colour from the body. The toy has plastic spoked wheels on the underside of the body, a plastic cannon on the top of the turtle and a pull cord attacked to its back.
The package contains the words "Pull Cord and Watch It Go!" and its label says it is designed for children under three. The recalled toy can be identified by item number G46136 and UPC 5831368461364.
Testing by Health Canada has found that the turtle's hat, wheels and wind-up mechanism can easily detach from the toy.
As well, the exposed screws on the turtle's underside pose a laceration hazard to children. No incidents or injuries related to the product have been reported.
Consumers are being urged to take the toys away from children immediately. The toys may be returned to the stores where purchased.
About 5,400 of the recalled toys, manufactured in China, were sold at Everything for a Dollar stores in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta and B.C. from October 2007 to May 2009.
