Elegant Baby teethers recalled because of bacteria contamination

Health Canada announced the recall of around 700 infant teethers that are included in a Baby Medical Kit by Elegant Baby.

Testing by Health Canada revealed the liquid filling of the teether was contaminated with Bacillus circulans. While that bacteria is not known to cause illness, it can sicken children with weakened immune systems.

The teether, which is shaped like a pretzel and is made out of uncoloured rubber, comes in a kit that includes a brush, a comb, a thermometer, a nail clipper, a measuring spoon and a suction bulb.

The teether, which is filled with liquid, can be identified by the UPC 77539953534.

The affected products were sold between January 2006 and May 2009 at retailers across Canada.

Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries associated with use of the product. Consumers are advised to take the recalled toys away from children.
