The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Campbell Hausfeld have announced a joint recall of 16,000 air compressor units that pose a fire hazard.
The recall involves the Campbell Hausfeld model HU200099AV air compressor with a 20-gallon tank. The recall includes date codes ranging from January 2009 through June 2009. Both the model and date codes can be found at the back of the tank.
The compressor's thermal overload, which shuts the unit off when it overheats, can fail. Therefore, the compressor may overheat, melting parts of it and posing a fire hazard.
There have been no reported injuries resulting from use of the product.
The recalled products were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores across the United States between January and June 2009.
Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to Wal-Mart for a full refund. Consumers can also call Campbell Hausfeld at 1-800-241-0448.
