5,500 whirlpool bathtubs recalled in U.S. over drowning hazard
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 | 04:01 PM ET
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Crane Plumbing have announced a recall of about 5,500 whirlpool bathtubs because they pose a possible drowning hazard.
People using the tub can get their hair entangled in the drain covers. The bather's head can therefore get trapped underwater, posing a drowning risk.
The tubs, which were manufactured in Canada and the U.S., are acrylic, contain between six and 12 jets and have the Crane logo painted on the whirlpool and/or noted on the air control valve. They were sold across the United States in home improvement, retail and wholesale stores between March 2007 and February 2009.
No injuries associated with use of the tubs have been reported.
Consumers are advised to stop using the tubs and contact Crane for more information, either by visiting the company website (www.craneplumbing.com) or calling 1-866-876-3632.
