U.S. recalls children’s hats that pose choking hazard
Tuesday, May 5, 2009 | 04:08 PM ET
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and an Alberta-based company have recalled a batch of children’s hats because they have parts that could be choking hazards.
About 370 Erwin Beanie and Poseidon Beanie children’s knitted hats, made in China by Ambler Mountain Works of Canmore, Alta., are affected. The hats were sold at specialty stores around the United States for around $30 US.
The eyeballs on the Erwin hat and the octopus legs on the Poseidon hat can come loose, said the CPSC.
No injuries have been reported, but the CPSC is still warning consumers not to use the recalled hats. Customers are advised to return the products to Ambler for a free product replacement or to cut off the frog’s eyes and the octopus legs and permanently dispose of them.
Customers can contact Ambler at (888) 267-6968 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT, Monday to Friday.
