CFIA warns Nanak sweets may contain salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection agency is warning consumers not to purchase a line of Indian-style sweets that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Nanak-brand sweets contain pistachios processed by Terra Bella Inc. that have been recalled in Canada and the United States because of salmonella contamination, the CFIA says.

The following products are affected by the advisory:

  • One-kilogram packs of Nanak Rasmalai. UPC code: 7 97677 60008 3. Best-before date if refrigerated: Feb. 3, 2009, to April 11, 2009, inclusive.

  • 400-gram packs of Nanak Rasmalai. UPC code: 7 97677 70060 8. Best-before date if refrigerated (all 2009): Feb. 3, Feb. 13, Feb. 21, March 18, March 28, April 11.

  • 312-gram packs of Nanak Kaju Roll. UPC code: 7 97677 70060 8. Best-before date if refrigerated: April 20 2009 and May 20, 2009.

All the products are made in Canada and have been distributed nationally. No illnesses associated with consumption of these products have been reported, the CFIA says.

The manufacturers have voluntarily recalled all the products from store shelves.
