Specialized Bicycle warns of cable stop problem, issues recall

Specialized Bicycle Components of Morgan Hill, Calif., said riders of two of its products should get the vehicles' cable stop repaired immediately.

Specialized Bicycle said this component on its 2004 Roubaix Comp 18, 2004 Roubaix Comp 27, 2004 Roubaix Pro 18, and 2004 Roubaix Pro 2004 models can loosen, causing the rider to lose control and fall.

The company said it has received two reports of falls resulting in fractures.

Approximately 3,000 units with this problem were manufactured in Taiwan and sold between September 2003 and August 2004.

The bikes ranged in price from $1,400 US to $4,000.

Specialized Bicycle said that only bicycles with a single rivet fastening the cable stop to the frame are subject to recall.

Specialized Bike said consumers should take the model to a bicycle shop to get repaired at the company's expense.
