Over-inflated fitness balls can burst

A fitness balls that can unexpectedly burst and cause users to fall are being voluntarily recalled by EE Brands.

The fitness balls, which are sold as Bally Total Fitness, Everlast, Valeo and Body Fit, can burst when over-inflated, said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

EE Brands has received 47 reports of the fitness balls bursting and causing users to fall to the floor, sustaining injuries that include broken bones and bruising.

More than three million of the rubber balls, which come in diameters that range from 55 to 75 cm, were sold in department stores and at fitness centres from May 2000 to February 2009. The retail value of the balls are between $15 and $30 US.

Consumers are being asked to contact EB Brands to receive updated instructions on how to properly inflate the balls.
