Majestic high chair recall expanded

Evenflo Co. Inc. of Miamisburg, Ohio, has recalled another 29,481 Majestic high chairs because the plastic caps and metal screws on both sides of the high chair can loosen and fall out, allowing the seat back to fall back or detach from the chair unexpectedly, Health Canada says.

This expands an earlier recall, adding new model numbers.

In Canada, Evenflo has received 37 reports of incidents involving the seat back, leading to one head bump.

In the U.S., 90,000 of the chairs have been recalled, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says. Evenflo has received 16 reports of problems in the U.S., including five reports of bumps and bruises to the head and five reports of other injuries. Evenflo also received 145 reports of plastic caps and screws falling out of the high chairs.

The Canadian recall involves high chairs manufactured before Dec. 31, 2008, with model numbers: 3001700, 3001713, 3001719CA, 3001733, 3001848, 3001852, 3003845.

The model number and manufacturing date are on a white label on the seat back. Evenflo is printed on the label and on the push button on the front of the tray.

Models showing a manufacturing date in 2009, written in red ink, are not included in the recall.
Consumers should stop using the chairs and contact Evenflo for a free repair kit.

Consumers can call Evenflo at 1-800-265-0749 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET.
