Human Touch recalls chairs to fix screw drive that poses entanglement hazard

http://www.humantouch.com/The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says owners of Human Touch chairs should contact the company for a free repair kit because the screw on their underside can cut or entangle children and pets.

The commission said the voluntary recall applies to about 20,000 Perfect Chairs by Human Touch LLC of Long Beach, Calif., with the model numbers PC-095, PC-3, PC-7, and PC-9 that have an open screw drive or a dual-cover screw drive and were sold before September 2007. Screws that are fully covered, the quad cover, are not subject to this recall.

Human Touch has received no reports of injuries to humans but has received one report of a dog’s fur becoming caught in the screw, the commission said.

The chairs were sold by Human Touch or authorized dealers, such as Relax the Back or the Healthy Back Store from April 2000 to June 2004 (open screw) and June 2004 to September 2007 (dual-cover screw) for about $1,800 US.

The commission advises consumers to immediately inspect the chair to see if it has the open screw or dual cover screw centred directly beneath the chair. Consumers should stop using these chairs if children or pets are present and contact either Human Touch or a dealer for a free screw cover kit.
