Health Canada warns animal hair spray contains harmful chemical

Health Canada is warning consumers against using two animal hair sprays, "Doc" Brannen's Clear Magic sold in 10-ounce grey or white containers and "Doc" Brannen's Black Magic Aerosol Hair Spray for Animals in grey or black containers.

The sprays are manufactured by Stone Manufacturing & Supply Company of Kansas City, Mo.

The products contain methylene chloride, which is prohibited in cosmetic products in aerosol containers. This chemical is a potential carcinogen to animals and humans, poses an inhalation hazard, and can convert in the blood to carbon monoxide.

Health Canada has not received reports of illness related to the use of these sprays.

The agency is urging consumers to stop using the product and contact the place of purchase for further instructions.
