Expensive Predator gaming computer heats up

Acer America Corp., of San Jose, Calif., has recalled about 215 of its Predator desktop computers because wires can overheat and pose a burn hazard, the U.S. consumer Products Safety Commission says.

Acer has received two reports of computers short circuiting, melting internal components and the external casing. Neither incident occurred in the U.S. No injuries have been reported.

Model numbers ASG7200 and ASG7700 are affected. The numbers are printed on the bottom right corner of the panel on the right side of the system.

The predators were sold in computer and electronic stores from May 2008 through December 2008 for between $2,000 US and $6,000.

Consumers should stop using the computers and contact Acer at (866) 695-2237 anytime to schedule a free repair.
