Child strangled by hoodie drawstring

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled 300,000 hoodies after a three-year-old boy from Fresno, Calif., died when his drawstring got caught on a playground set.

The drawstrings should be removed immediately, the agency said.

The sweatshirts, Kid Pullover Hood Sweatshirt and Kid Zipper Sweatshirt with Hood, were made by Hill Sportswear Inc. of Paramount, Calif.

The Kid Pullover Hood has a flat drawstring at the neck, one middle front pocket and fleece lining. The hooded Zipper children’s sweatshirt has a rounded drawstring, two front pockets, and fleece lining. Both have a label reading HILL/ Made in USA.

The hoodies were sold at small retailers in California and Texas from August 1999 to December 2008 for about $8 US each.

Retailers or Hill Sportswear will provide a full refund.
