Camp stoves recalled because of burn hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is voluntarily recalling camp stoves sold exclusively at Dick's Sporting Goods because gas could flow at a rate that would produce higher-than-expected flames and pose a burn hazard.

The recall involves the "Field & Stream" dual burner camp stove, which is a propane-fuelled portable stove. The style number (CEH00475) can be located on the packaging. The "Field & Stream" logo is on the back panel of the stove behind the burners

The commission says rainwater in the burners can also prevent proper ignition and allow gas to build up and ignite unexpectedly. This condition also poses a burn hazard to consumers.

No injuries have been reported related to the use of the camp stoves.

About 6,700 of the units, imported by Dick's Sporting Goods of Pittsburgh, Pa., were sold in the U.S. and on the firm's website from January to October 2008 for between $100 US and $120 US each.

Consumers should stop using the camp stoves immediately and should call Dick's Sporting Goods to receive a free repair kit. The toll-free number is 1-888- 837-1380 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

The camp stoves were manufactured by Rankam Group Ltd. of China.
