Billiard games recalled because of lead concerns

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is voluntarily recalling Golfer's Billiard Games by Dick's Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy because the surface paint on the balls can contain excess lead.

The recalled product includes 15 golf balls, with exterior paint and designed to resemble a billiard ball, and six putting cups. The recall involves the Acuity Golfer's Billiard Game, style No. AC302, and the Clubhouse Golfer's Billiard Game, style No. 302. The name and style number are located on the packaging.

No injuries or incidents have been reported related to the use of the product.

About 2,300 units were sold. The Acuity model was sold at Dick's Sporting Goods stores in the U.S. from October to December 2008 for about $30 US each. The Clubhouse model was sold at Golf Galaxy stores in the U.S. and on its website from May to December 2008 for about $30 US each.

The distributor was Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. and Golf Galaxy Inc., both of Pittsburgh, Pa., while the manufacturer is Golf Gifts and Gallery, of Powers Lake, Wis.

Consumers should stop using the products immediately and return them to the store of purchase for full refunds.
