Health Canada recalls stuffed tinsel snowman due to choking hazard

Health Canada is recalling Stuffed Tinsel Snowman by Santa's Secrets because testing has found that its eyes and bell can detach and cause a choking hazard.

The snowman, about 42 centimetres high, has a blue hat and scarf, both with tinsel trim. It also has hard black eyes with a metal bell attached to its arm.

The product was sold at dollar and discount stores across Canada. It is identified by the item number A9 88394 and UPC number 060107883944.

Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries related to use of the toy. The testing of the toy was done by Health Canada.

It advises consumers to take the toy away from children immediately. It says consumers can return the item to the stores where it was bought to obtain a refund or they should throw the snowman away.

About 1,416 of the recalled toys were sold in Canada from September to December 2008. The snowmen, manufactured in China, were imported by Encore Sales Ltd. of Concord, Ont.
